SANT SADURNÍ D'ANOIA


PATRIMONY
Sant Sadurní is based on the millenarian ground of the Penedès, to the limit of new Catalunya and the old Catalunya with special people, crossroad of influences. In the 1768 Sant Sadurní de Subirats it obtained municipal independence and it becomes Sant Sadurní d'Anòia. At that time the culture of grapevine and the wine elaboration already constituted the main occupation. In the 1887 east world it underwent a terrible disaster: the fil · loxera, a very small insect that attacks the roots of the stock, devastated vineyards and ruined the villa. Sant Sadurní became the main nucleus of the fight against the fil · loxera of Catalunya. The “cava” (special wine similar to French Champagne) production, that had begun timidly shortly before the fil · loxera, took a definitive impulse and, since then, Sant Sadurní is unquestionably the Capital of Cava. Hermitage of Sant Benet d'Espiells (s. XI)
Sine is a Romanesque temple of rectangular ship, in direction, reformed during S. XVII with a gothic extension.

Tower of defense - of l'aigua (finals s. XIX)
This tower of interest by its military architecture is product of a period of fortification of Sant Sadurní during the third carlina war (1872-1876).

Parochial Església of Sant Sadurní

Modernist Architecture

LA FIESTA OF FIL·LOXERA

In memory to these facts the FESTA OF the FIL.LOXERA is organized since 1983 · , a whistle celebration folkloric that by means of dances i the interventions of different activities it wants to remember that episode of our history in difficult times, but also the spirit of the people of the villa to surpass them and to leave victorious and to obtain years later the product that distinguishes them: the cava.

Prelude
Day 7 imagines at night the appearance of the plague of September, when thirty fil · loxeritas leave fireworks i are scattered by groups by all the fire town loaded, to end up eeting again itself in a point of the center of the villa.

The Celebration
To eleven at night of day 8 of September the concentration in the Raval is made. They are the last attack preparationses of the fil · loxera, that ignited in all its weapon emplacements appears in the seat of the church. The dancers represent the “payeses” of the villa that towards 1887 suffered and fought against the plague. The fil · loxera when it arrives at the seat, flood of fire from the mouth, the antennas and the wings, attacks with the background sound of the drums. THE CAVATAST
The CAVATAST is the most important sample of tasting of diggings and gastronomy that at the moment is organized in all the country. In 2004 was the eighth consecutive edition. The CAVATAST is a point of contact for industralists of cava, professionals of the sector of the elaboration, hotel, and lovers of the cava in general, where the best products and the new features can be known the market.

The 1892 Confraria of Cava organized the first Week of the “cava”. SITGES

The Subur White, forms popular as Sitges is known, is the starting point of the itinerary. It is arrived by the highway of Vilafranca at Vilanova. All the old district is painted of target. CAMPANAR OF THE BASÍLICA DE SANTA MARIA

The MUSEUM OF VILAFRANCA, MUSEUM Of the WINE, ARCHAEOLOGICAL and GEOLOGIC MUSEUM

Located in the gothic district of Vilafranca, the museum is surrounded by seats, palaces and churches. It is a center of cultural activities and an authentic museum of museums, integrated to the old Real palace, one old gothic chapel and other modern buildings. The visit passes by the different sections from the museum: The Museum of Wine distributed in eleven rooms where it allows to follow the evolution of the vinícolas techniques and its history, the Collections of Art formed by the collections of sacred art, painting and sculpture and a lot of samples of ceramics. In the Museum of Local Archaeology are examples that have marked the cultural evolution of the man from the prehistoric times to the romanización. The Local geologic Museum contains more than five thousand units of fossils, minerals and rocks of the Penedès, and to finish, the Ornithological Collection, a unique collection that presents/displays the birds starting up its respective nests and eggs. MODERNISM IN VILAFRANCA DEL PENEDÈS
Visit by foot at the center of Vilafranca, a long walk by the history of the modernist period contemplating to the architecture of the houses and warehouses. It visits the Museum of Vilafranca, to contemplate works of different authors; in cripta of santa Maria, with one of the more excellent groups of sculpture of the architecture of Josep Llimona, and the house of the Font Rodona, with its magnificent crystals and the inner decorations.

MODERNISM OF MUSIC
